Jared Genova is an urbanist, strategist, planner, designer, and traveler.
Jared is an urban strategy and development consultant based in New Orleans. He formerly served as the Resilience Planning and Strategy Manager for the City of New Orleans, where he managed the development and implementation of the world's first comprehensive city resilience strategy, Resilient New Orleans, as part of the City’s partnership with 100 Resilient Cities—Pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation. He was also a co-designer and author of the City's winning entry for the HUD National Disaster Resilience Competition—Reshaping the Urban Delta—which yielded more than $140mn for the City of New Orleans, and a co-author and editor of the City’s first climate action strategy, Climate Action for a Resilient New Orleans. Subsequently, Jared helped develop the Resilient Heritage (Patrimonio Resiliente) framework of the Inter-American Development Bank's Living Heritage (Patrimonio Vivo) program. He served as a consulting strategy lead for climate change adaptation and engagement platform ISeeChange, which seeks to use technology to enable more focused and equitable participation in climate resilience planning. He helped lead the startup through the TechStars City of 2030 Accelerator in Amsterdam during the height of the pandemic.
Today, Jared is serving as Deputy Director of Community Planning and Resilience at Civix, with a focus on climate and energy planning, disaster recovery and emergency management, and strategic community development.
In the past, Jared worked as an urban design and planning consultant based in Austin and New York, focusing on local development as well as disaster risk reduction projects in the Caribbean, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. Jared holds a bachelor’s degree in Metropolitan Studies and Urban Design + Architecture from New York University (NYU) and Master of Science in Community and Regional Planning from The University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture.
